There is a tendency among Hindus to distance themselves from the fact that caste is not something that materialised out of thin air and is actually supported by their holy books. So every once in a while, someone turns up with a claim that the Gita doesn't say caste is assigned by birth. But it does and it's very plain to see that it does.
