I want to draw your attention to something that happens on the discourse front fairly regularly. I call it the hijacking of the Liberal worldview. You may call it something else. But it happens all the time and you should know about it. It has to do with the ongoing citizenship law circus too.

The Right Wing has a set of defining characteristics the world over, especially in this day and age. Respect for "the old ways", suspicion of "outsiders", and a certain chest-thumping enthusiasm for military adventurism.

Liberals have a problem, not so much with these things themselves, but with the flavour the Right Wing cooks them in. The Right turns respect for tradition into anti-science rhetoric, and it turns the military into something that can't be questioned. Liberals respect the past and the military, but within reason. And that is never good enough for the Right.
